I. RATES
Tuition (payable to the teacher for each course)
$150 per student per course per semester, unless otherwise indicated.
Teachers who provide supplies (textbooks, lab materials, etc.) may raise their tuition rates accordingly.
General fees (payable to Paideia Tutorials)
Registration fee: $40 per family per academic year.
Late payment fee: $25 per student per course per semester, added to any other payment that is not paid on time.
Special fees (payable as indicated)
Late departure fee: $10 per family per quarter hour (or portion thereof), for students leaving campus after closing time (payable to the sexton).
Property damages: any appropriate amount assessed by the Paideia board, for any damage beyond reasonable wear and tear to the campus or to other private property on campus (payable to the property owner).
II. SCHEDULE
The registration due dates are Aug. 7 for the fall semester and Dec. 15 for the spring semester. For the purposes of this document, all courses are assumed to last one semester (i.e., a year-long course is treated as two semester-long courses).
The first step in registering is to enroll the family in Paideia Tutorials, which is done by completing and submitting the Family Registration Form with supporting documents and registration fee. This is due by the registration due date for the first semester of the academic year in which the family is enrolling any students. It is subject to the approval of the board. It is good for the remainder of the academic year (i.e., it does not carry past the end of the summer, even for a family first enrolling in the spring semester).
The second step in registering is to enroll students in one or more courses, which is done by filling out the Student Registration Form and paying at least the tuition deposit of $50 per student per course. This is due by the registration due date for the relevant semester. It is subject to the approval of the teacher for each course. Course registration forms are due each semester. Families may proceed provisionally with the second step while waiting for the board’s review of the first step.
If the tuition is not paid in full at the time of registration, the balance is due by the registration due date for the relevant semester.
If the existence of a course is contingent on sufficient registration numbers, the teacher will decide whether or not to offer the course on the basis of registrations received by the registration due date and will communicate the decision to the board within one week after that date.
All special fees are due three weeks after assessment.
No student will be permitted to register for a course or admitted to any class session if any member of his family owes any past-due tuition or fees for the current or any previous semester.
III. REFUNDS
Enrollment in Paideia courses commits funds and affects the plans of several other parties—other students seeking enrollment in what may be a limited number of spaces, teachers preparing their curricula, and board members planning the scheduling of courses. We view enrollment as a serious commitment to take the indicated courses and to pay for them in full, not merely as a tentative reservation that may be readily dropped later on. Therefore, under normal circumstances and unless otherwise indicated elsewhere in this or any higher-ranking document, tuition and fees are not refundable. In particular, missing a class session for reasons particular to the individual student—for example, by the student’s own choice, through circumstances beyond his control, or as a consequence of disciplinary matters or unpaid tuition or fees—does not entitle the student to any refund of tuition or fees.
Withdrawal from a course by the registration due date will result in a refund of all tuition paid beyond the tuition deposit. Withdrawal from a course after the registration due date but before campus opens on the first day of the semester will result in a refund of all tuition paid beyond 50% of the total tuition due. Withdrawal from a course after campus opens on the first day of the semester will result in no refund of tuition. Withdrawal from a course at any point constitutes forfeiture of all relevant fees. Once enrolled in a course, a student will be assumed to be still enrolled unless and until he gives the teacher written notice of withdrawal.
A student who wishes to reenroll in a course after withdrawing will not be required to pay any unrefunded tuition for that course again. Reenrollment is still subject to the teacher’s approval, however.
In the event that a teacher falls significantly short of delivering the instruction expected, the board may address the situation at the request of the parents or students. However, no refund of tuition or fees is promised, even if the board finds that the complaint is valid.
Unless otherwise indicated elsewhere in this or any higher-ranking document, the party receiving a payment cannot be compelled by another party to refund that payment. However, any party receiving a payment may voluntarily refund part or all of it. A family facing exceptional circumstances that may warrant requesting such a refund should contact the party receiving the payment.
